Complex Information

Chinook Village has 122 three or four bedroom apartments and 3 two bedroom apartments. These apartments are built to accommodate three or four students in each unit with each bedroom set up for a single student.

All apartments include a stove, a refrigerator and wall to wall carpeting in all rooms except the kitchen, bathroom and entry hallway. Furnished apartments also include a sofa armchair, table with chairs, beds, dressers, desks and desk chairs. Housing will not remove furniture from furnished units, but a limited number of unfurnished apartments are available. Each apartment has either a deck or patio.

For your convenience, the university pays for cable TV and Internet, water, sewer and garbage. However, residents are responsible for electricity - including electric baseboard heat and phone service. Two coin-operated laundry facilities are located within the complex. Chinook Village also has a community center that can be reserved for the use of complex residents.

To provide students on the south side of campus with more convenient fitness options, University Recreation has partnered with Housing & Residence Life to create the Down Under Fitness Center in Stephenson Complex. Approximately 3,800 square feet will be dedicated to weight lifting and cardio equipment. The new fitness center will also include two multipurpose group fitness and training rooms.  These rooms will also be used for Residence Life programming and events.  Opening for the start of fall semester 2015, the fitness center will be accessible by CougarCard to students who pay the Student Recreation Center mandatory fee, or by elected membership.

Renters Insurance Information

Should I get renter's insurance when I live in University Housing?

Yes! While you may be covered under your parent’s homeowner’s insurance, claims against homeowner’s insurance can be expensive, especially compared to renter’s insurance. Personal property insurance is recommended by WSU. This insurance will cover your belongings if they are accidentally damaged, stolen, vandalized or suffer a loss from water, fire, smoke, etc. It’s very important to purchase coverage (starting at $65 for the year for $2,000 worth of coverage) so that in the event an emergency arises, you will have the funds to replace your items. If a loss occurs, WSU is not responsible. We strongly encourage all students to purchase this insurance as unfortunate situations can and do happen. Here are some common situations that can occur:

1. Water damage from sprinklers going off
2. Fire, smoke, explosion, windstorm
3. Theft
4. Accidental damage
5. Vandalism

To purchase this coverage, please visit www.studentinsuranceprograms.com/pp . You can also reach our broker that handles this plan (Haylor, Freyer, & Coon, Inc), at 866-535-0456 or student@haylor.com and they’d be happy to answer any questions that you have and help you enroll.
